Dr. Alastair Martin – Founder and Chief Strategy Officer

Dr. Alastair Martin is a professional energy engineer with experience ranging from gigawatt-scale coal and nuclear power stations, through industrial energy efficiency, to small wind, solar, biomass and hydro generators.

In 2004, Alastair founded Martin Energy Ltd, now Flexitricity Limited, after formulating the core Flexitricity concepts of aggregated load management and flexible generation.

Alastair has 18 years of experience in the energy industry. Before founding Flexitricity, he worked on energy efficiency and renewable energy at Scottish Water. Prior to that, Alastair was a project engineer for Mitsui Babcock Energy Limited (1998-2000), now Doosan Babcock, where he created a repowering strategy for a major nuclear client and developed novel technologies for improving coal-fired power station efficiency. Previously, he conducted research at Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh in process intensification and offshore engineering.

Alastair graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 1992 in electrical and mechanical engineering. He completed his PhD in offshore engineering in 1997, also at the University of Edinburgh. He was an honorary fellow of the university from 1999 to 2002, and has been a chartered engineer and a member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers since 2000.

Ron Ramage, Chief Executive Officer

Ron Ramage joined Flexitricity in May 2009, bringing with him 10 years of senior-level experience in business leadership and operational delivery in technology-based high-growth environments.

Prior to joining Flexitricity, Ron was the managing director of FST Technologies Ltd., an innovative and profitable IT company, which he guided over several years from its early start-up phase to an established position as a successful and much larger player in its chosen sector.

Ron has previously worked in high-volume electronics manufacture, automotive, and heavy industry.

David Sigsworth, Chairman

David Sigsworth joined Flexitricity shortly after his retirement from Scottish and Southern Energy, where he was generation director and lead director for the environment. At SSE, he managed one of the largest and most diverse generation fleets in the UK, with over 10,000 MW of plant. He was also responsible for a £1bn programme of investments in renewable generation technologies.

David is the chairman of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, the chairman of the Dundee Science Centre, a vice president of the Combined Heat and Power Association (CHPA), a board member of Energy Action Scotland and a trustee of the think tank Sustainability First.

David also holds an honorary professorship at Dundee University.
